The things I miss

The bright rays of the morning sun reach my eyes and I furrow deeper into my blanket as I relish the last cool spot under it. I count to five, slowly, then something furry makes its way beside me; feeling it curl itself into a ball before letting out a deep and huffy puff of air. The incessant wagging of a happy tail hits my face which signals that it really is time for me to wake or I’ll end up with a pool of dog pee on my bed. I quickly make my way to the door and the light pitter-patter of paws follow me. Nikki runs like mad to the stairs, making it straight outside to do her business.
